The Butterfly Fairy Toddler Costume: All about Fairies

Butterfly Fairy Toddler CostumeThe little girl in the Butterfly fairy toddler costume had me spiraling into the past as soon as she showed up at my door on that windy Halloween night. She couldn’t have been more than 3 years old and her long blonde curls hung like silk over the top of her light purple dress. She had a smile that could light up a room and I could barely hear her whispered trick or treat.

Of course I knew what she was asking and before I even thought about it I had put 3 handfuls of candy into her little purple bag. She held that bag in one hand and her magic wand in the other.

She then explained to me that she was the butterfly fairy not to be confused with Tinker Bell or any of the Disney fairies.

The Pixie Hollow fairies were a different breed of fairies she said her little eyes sparkling and her forehead crinkling as she tried to get the words right. She talked remarkably well for a 3 year old. She reached down to smooth out her Butterfly fairy toddler costume as if it was made of silk and I couldn’t help but notice her mother stifling a smile behind her.

I smiled gently in her direction my mind on the last child I had seen in a Butterfly fairy toddler costume. I had been a child not even 7 years old when my sister had disappeared. She had been dressed in her costume just like this little girl. She had gone out with my mother to trick or treat and neither of them ever came home. It wasn’t until years later that I found out my mother and little sister had skipped town that night leaving me and my dad to fend for ourselves.

I wasn’t bitter though. A year later my dad met what I now considered to be my mother and I ended up being one of the most well rounded boys and men that you would ever meet. I had my mom and dad to thank for that.

I pulled my mind back from the past with a start when the little blond in the Butterfly fairy toddler costume asked me why I was so sad. I explained I wasn’t and on a whim asked her mom if they wanted to come in for hot coco with whipped cream and some hot, salty, buttered popcorn. The little girl who I would later get to know as Sarah clapped her hands and begged real prettily for her mom to let them.

Rebecca as I would get to know her name later agreed and we went inside out of the chill October air and started a pot of coffee for us and some milk for hot cocoa for Sarah. That was 5 years ago when the little girl in the Butterfly fairy toddler costume showed up at my door for Halloween and changed all of our lives for the better.
